View a new exhibit of
Ancient Gold Jewelry from the Bactrian Empire in Afghanistan. While
risking their own lives, the director of the National Museum in Kabul
and his family, kept the whereabouts of this gold treasure a secret for
15 years.
In 2001 the Taliban came close to finding the treasure when they found the actual safe it was hidden in, however they had no idea it contained the famous gold treasure. After trying to blow up the vault with dynamite in vain, they abandoned the safe and the treasure surfaced in 2004 again. Find information on the "Hidden Afghanistan " exhbit which can be visited in the center of Amsterdam in the "Nieuwe Kerk" (new church) until April 20 2008. Also DO visit the National Afghanistan Museum in Kabul. In a few weeks, we will have a special online exhibit ready on this ancient jewelry find.
