XII. Itkuri.* This
field is situated about 25 miles north-west of Hazaribagh. The Barakar
coal-measures, which include a few seams of inferior coal, are exposed
only over half a square mile. The remainder of the area is made up by
rocks of the Talchir group.
XIII. AURUNGA.f
This
field is situated in the district of Lohardugga, to the west of the
sources of the Damuda, in the valley of the Koel, a tributary of the
Sone. The area is 97 square miles, and the groups represented are:—

There are numerous coal seams, some of large size, the estimated amount of coal which they contain being 20,000,000 tons.
The
following average proportions of constituents, derived from the assays
of seven samples from different localities, indicate a very poor
quality of fuel.
