had extorted the signatures of the Prayer-leaders {imdtnldr) 0f Lahor to this accusation, and had sent copies of it to the various towns ; that 'Abdu'l-'aziz himself had failed to give ear to several royal orders, had spoken unseemly words, and done acts which ought to have been left undone. On account of these matters Qambar-i-'all Arghun was started off on Sunday the i Ith of the month {Zu't-qa'da), to arrest Shaikh Sharaf, the Lahor imams with their associates, and 'Abdu'l-'aziz, and to bring them all to Court.

{August nth) Sayyid Mashhadi who had come from Guallar in these days, represented that Rahlm-dad was stirring up sedition.2 On account of this, Khalifa's servant Shah Muhammad the-' seal-bearer was sent to convey to Rahlm-dad matters written with commingling of good counsel. " The Tarikh-i-gualZari (B.M. Add. 16,709, p. 18) supplements the fragmentary accounts which, above and s. a. 936 ah. , are all that the Babur-nama now preserves concerning Khwaja Rahlm-dad's misconduct. It has several mistakes but the gist of its information is useful. It mentions that the Khwaja and his paternal-uncle Mahdi Khwaja had displeased Babur ; that Rahlm-dad resolved to take refuge with the ruler of Malwa (Muhammad Khiljt) and to make over Guallar to a Rajput landholder of that country ; that upon this Shaikh Muhammad Ghaus went to Agra and interceded with Babur and obtained his forgiveness for Rahlm-dad. Guallar was given back to Rahim-dad but after a time he was superseded by Abu'1-fath [Shaikh Guran]. For particulars about Mahdi Khwaja and a singular story told about him by Nizamu'd-dW Ahmad in the TabaqcU-i-akbari, vide Gul-badan's Humayun-nama, Appendix B, and Translator's Note p. 702, Section/.
