The great diamond was received by the King and Queen at Windsor Castle from Mr. Asscher on NovemĀ­ber 21, 1908.
The " Prince Edward of York Diamond," a fine white pear-shape African stone weighing 60-1/4 carats, was imĀ­ported in 1901 by Alfred H. Smith & Co., the New York diamond merchants, and sold to an American banker.
