The Federation is the largest producer of copper in the Commonwealth and the third largest in the free world; its output is equal to nearly half the Commonwealth total and about a seventh of that of the free world. Measured and indicated reserves amount to over 17 million tons of metallic copper or the equivalent of more than 40 years' supply at present rates of extraction.39
