THE HORNBY.
Another Gem unknown to History — Possibly to be found at Teheran.
OHN
MURRAY writes: "The' Hornby' diamond, brought from the East Indies by
the Hon. William Hornby, governor of Bombay, in 1775, weighs 36 carats,
and is now, I believe, the property of the Shah of
Persia."
Nothing further is known of this stone, no mention
of which occurs in any writer subsequent to the time
of Murray, the second edition of whose Memoir
appeared in 1839.
