natives 15s. for 100 loads. The cost of hauling and depositing is about 6d. per load. In open mining the natives are paid 15s. per 100 loads (80 tons) for loading and delivering to a flat-sheet from 100
to 150 feet from the place of loading. On the floors, after the ground
is pulverized, 12s. per 100 loads is paid for reloading. The ground is
treated in the same manner as at De Beers and Kimberley mines, which
will be described in the following chapter.
There
is a large body of floating reef in the mine, which measured about 350
feet by 200 feet on the surface, but, at the depth of 500 feet, it has
been nearly displaced by diamond-bearing ground. As already mentioned,
these large blocks of floating reef are portions of the country rock
which have broken loose
