Temperament: Hot in the third degree and dry in the second.
Therapeutic Action: Tonic, desiccative, useful in hysteria (Makhzan
al-Adawiyyah; Al-Haun).
Usage: In extracts, pills, confections, poultices. (Dihli kay Sahih
Murakkabat; Qarabadin-e-Dhakai).
Billur (Superior Variety of Zujaj)
Temperament: Hot and dry (Al-Saydanah; Al-Tadhkirah).
Therapeutic Action: Detersive; used for scabby eyes (Makhzan alAdawiyyah).
Usage: As calx (Miftah al-Khazain), collyria, ta'liq (for palsy and
epilepsy in children) (Makhzan al-Adawiyyah).
Talqun
A species of poisonous brass or mixed metal, composed of iron.
antimony, lead, gold, tin, copper and silver, of which tweezers are
made for pulling out hairs which never grow afterwards, or at least
but slowly. (Al-Saydanah, Al-1'adhkirah).
Temperament: Hot and dry in the third degree.
Therapeutic Action: Astringent, cicatrizing agent, prevents putrid
matter from spreading; ocular tonic.
Usage: In a polypharmaceutical, Hasliquu Kabir and a calx
(Qarabadin-e-Qiidri ).
Karak
Temperament: Dry and cold in the first degree (to the extreme).
Some physicians have designated it as cold in the first degree, while
others have called it moderately dry.
Therapeutic Action: Revulsive and detersive; anti-emetic and thirst
quencher; cures whiteness of the eye; styptic (Makhzan al-Adawiyyah;
Tuhfat al Mominin; Al-Tadhkirah).
Khumahin (Khumahan)
Temperament: Cold and dry (in the second degree).
Therapeutic Action: Cardiac tonic, tranquillizer, ocular
preservative, and anti-intoxicant (Makhzan al-Adawiyyah; Tuhjat alMominin; Al-Tadhkirah).
Dahnah Farang
Temperament: Hot and dry (fourth degree).
