Preparation: With the exception of silk cocoon and Berberis
aristata, the 16 herbal ingredients are seived through 80-mesh, and sujuj
is obtained from them. Berberis aristata is first washed and heated in
water till it dissolves. While semi-hot, it is rubbed with hands and
strained. The silk is soaked overnight in ten times its volume of water
and heated in the morning till the water evaporates and the silk just
retains some moisture; afterwards, it is rubbed with hands again and
mixed with the Berberis aristata decoction.
To this decoction is added the sieved honey, white sugar, and
ambergris and the mixture heated till a proper qiwam is formed. Now
sodium benzoate, dissolved in a little water, is added to the qiwam
which is taken off the fire and a little while later the saffron, triturated
in the aqua Onosma bracteatum, is added, followed by the gradual
addition of the sufuf accompanied by constant stirring. Now Vateria
indica, the pearls and coral root are added; and, last of all, rnastagi,
molten in ghee, is added. Slightly afterwards the silver foil and the
musk, dissolved in aqua Pandanus odoratissimus, is added and mixed
well.
