Embelia robusta (baobarang)                                                    1 2 grams

Cinnamomum cassia, leaves (tezpat)                                       1 2 grams

Piper nigrum (filfil-i-siyah)                                                        1 2 grams
Woodfordia fruticosa flowers (gid dhawa)                              1 2 grams
Piper betel (pan desi)                                                                   20 Nos.
Water (pain)                                                                                   9 litres
Preparation: With the exception of the betel leaves the remaining
ingredients are soaked in 9 litres of water, the lid of the vessel be
covered overnight. The betel leaves are incorporated during the
following morning and the infusion distilled to yield 8 litres of the
aqua. 100 ml. of faulad sayyal (q.v.) are now added to the distillate
which is stocked in bottle.
Dosage and administration: 60 ml. twice a day after meals.
L'ses and indications: (i) General tonic, (ii) Nervine tonic, (hi)
Stomachic and liver tonic, (iv) Digestive, (v) Depurative. (vi) Useful in
blind and bleeding piles.
FAULADSAYYAL
Recipe
Iron dust (burada faulad)                                                          10 grams
Pure Hydrochloric acid (khalis taizab nainak)                            30 ml.
Distilled water (ab muqqatar)                                                       20 ml.
Alcohol (aikohal)         '                                                                 20 ml.
Preparation: 30 ml. of pure hydrochloric acid placed in a cylindrical
glass and the iron dust is gradually added to it. Since the resulting
effervescence is likely to result in the overflow of the liquid, it is
advisable to stir the reaction mixture constantly with a glass rod. The
reaction mixture will subside after some time and is allowed to stand
for 12 hours. The original bluish-green colour will have changed to the
green colour. The ferrous chloride so formed is filtered and about
20 ml. of the liquor are obtained. First, the distilled water and. later
on, the alcohol is added. The medicament is preserved in bottle which
should be tightly corked to obviate the possibility of oxidation.
Dosage and administration: 5 drops twice a day with 60 ml. of plain
water after meals.
