Before drawing to a clo.:;e, I must point out that this description is the result of but a flying peep at the mining features. A volume could be written concerning the features of any one of the centres visited, but that would mean a month or more in each centre. I hope, however, that I have succeeded in throwing a little light on the " reason why " in matters of gold deposition in the gold-fields of this State, and have shown that the area examined repreĀsents an immense gold-field, in which few even of the outcropping favoured situations for gold deposition in payable form have been mined. What these outcropping favoured points represent in the numberless systems of snch favoured situations which extend on all lode lines for hundreds of miles to the north and south, and to depths too deep for humanity to mine, remains to be seen. To gain a knowledge concerning the structural arrangement of these lines of drainage known as lode systems, in the different gold-fields of the State, time, patience, and intelligence in close reading of the rocks on the part of all miners, guided by the Mining Department, are necessary. I have also to urge the necessity for extensive shallow cross-cutting through all the mining fields of the State, that plans may be prepared showing the association of slate layers, dyke formations, and lode systems, with the general corrugation of the rock beds.
