CROWN JEWELS.

hawking glove belonging to this unfortunate princess was ornamented with fifty-two large pearls and numerous small ones,
twelve rubies, and seven garnets.
The regalia, now in the Crown Room of the Castle, consist
of the sceptre, the sword, the golden collar of the Garter, conferred upon James VI., by Queen Elizabeth, with a " George and

set above the leaves. The diadem of a viscount is encircled
with pearls, and that of a baron is adorned with only four pearls.

Devonshire parure, remarkable for the number and variety of
the gems employed in its construction. The parure comprises
seven different jewels — a coronet, necklace, bandeau, comb,
stomacher, and bracelets, made of the most beautiful gems of
the Devonshire collection, including the amethyst, sapphire,
emerald, ruby, plasma, jacinth, sard, onyx, lapis-lazuli, garnet,
