HISTORICAL AND REMARKABLE DIAMONDS- 241
encloses numerous irregular-shaped cavities, either void, or
filled with a transparent fluid.
What was called the " Cleveland gem," exhibited at the
New Orleans Exposition, is a South African diamond, which
weighed in its native state seventy-eight carats, and after
cutting forty-two and one-half. It has a yellow tinge, is of
great brilliancy, and exhibits a remarkable play of colors.
