agents employed, whether water holding in solution certain
mineral substances, or gases, or some eruptive phenomenon, are
questions which, probably, would divide scientists ; but, whatever were the conditions necessary for such a result, the existence of these marvels cannot be questioned, and they are
calculated to excite the wonder and admiration of every one
who examines them. The exhibition of this marvellous production at the New Orleans Exposition formed one of its most
interesting features, as it was one of the most novel. The
exhibit included several tons of gems, in the condition of trunks
of trees, varying in length and diameter, and combining a great
variety of colors, representing a conglomerate of different precious stones, which were cut and polished under the eye of the
spectator. The mosaics for tabic* and other ornamental articles afforded a remarkably fov selection for producing a
beautiful harmony «*f colon.
