The information
herein is gathered and arranged for a book of ready reference for
jewellers. The aim has been to avoid unnecessary detail, and to make
facts useful to a dealer in precious stones conspicuous. Special
attention has been given to stones unfamiliar to many jewellers, and
for which there is a growing demand in this country.
Chief
among the writers regarded in the compilation as authorities are
Professor James D. Dana, on mineralogy; Mr. George F. Kunz, on American
gems; Dr. Max Bauer and Mr. Edwin W. Streeter, on matters of general
information.
