and exhaustive treatment is not within the scope of this work; nor is
it possible, as yet, to offer complete information, since Oriental
scholars have not sufficiently occupied themselves with this subject,
which might help to throw light on the state of ancient civilization,
on the intercourse between various nations, and on the mechanical and
artistic knowledge cultivated in the remote regions of the East.
