diagonally,
and also as made, in allusion to the use of the "mascle" in heraldry,
which signifies a rhomb with open center. The name andalu-site is from
the province of Andalusia in Spain, whence the mineral was first
described. Chiastolites are found at various points in New England and
in California in this country, but sale for them is to be found chiefly
abroad. Kunz describes andalusite of a pink color, capable of affording
transparent gems, which is obtainable at Westford, Massachusetts, and
Standish, Maine.
