No one need fear the Indians of California. They were mild and help­less; they lived in huts made of tule rushes and were given to thievery, basket-making, hunting and fishing. To aid them in snaring game they carved and used decoy-birds. (Right, the interior of a California Indian hut.)
On certain days they sweat-bathed and climaxed the process by leaping into a cold stream below.
Sometimes they fished with spears, but dragnets were used as well.
