Captain Bruff and his Washington Company crossed the Missouri some seven miles below Nebraska City. At the left is the sketch he made in June, 1849, as his wagons were being ferried over through the drift of the usual flood.
The sketch below shows how the wagons of another outfit were let down the banks of some prairie river; probably the Nemeha or the Big Blue.
