The Indians of the plains wrapped their dead in a blanket and buffalo skin and raised him up on a platform, out of the reach of the wolves. With him they put his cup and his moccasins and all the things he might need in the spirit world. Delano saw some of these graves as his train neared Ash Hollow where the trail touched the North Platte after the ford of the south branch.
