174 Gold Rush Album
In the early lithographic view of San Francisco above, the ship Philadelphia is shown afire. This vessel burned on June 24, 1849, a fact which would appear to establish the date of the view. A second state of this print exists, in which signs have been added to a number of the buildings.
The original painting by Henry Firks, from which this print was made, is the property of the Newport, R. I., Historical Society and shows interesting variations from the print.
