The view of Murphy's Diggings above, and the two views which follow it, were in their time the handsomest things of their kind made in California. Thirty subjects in all make up the full series produced between 1855 and 1858 by Charles Kuchel and Emil Dresel. Other prints from the series will be found toward the end of this chapter.
