remark has induced our mineralogists to give the name of Augite to a mineral generally found in company with the Olivine in its basaltic matrix ; being nearly identical with the latter in chemical composition, but black, and useless for the jeweller's art.
The Olivine is the only precious stone of whose exist­ence beyond the limits of our world we have proof positive, for grains of it have been discovered filling up cavities in aerolites, from whatever unknown regions in space those wondrous visitants may have emanated.
