remark
has induced our mineralogists to give the name of Augite to a mineral
generally found in company with the Olivine in its basaltic matrix ;
being nearly identical with the latter in chemical composition, but
black, and useless for the jeweller's art.
The
Olivine is the only precious stone of whose existÂence beyond the
limits of our world we have proof positive, for grains of it have been
discovered filling up cavities in aerolites, from whatever unknown
regions in space those wondrous visitants may have emanated.
