A Pearl shell diver is called "tan maksah"'; the act of diving being expressed by the word "maklurop" A Pearl shell is called "'tipei" and a Pearl "muchia"
The second method of obtaining shell is by dredging for it (inakbajak) as low as fifty fathoms. This dredge (bajak) of which a sketch is here given
(Fig. 9.) is beautifully constructed of heavy sinking wood, the parts being bound together with rattan ; and two heavy stones are used for sinkers. It is admirably designed and adapted to its purpose.
