The following is given as the native classifica­tion of these Indian Pearls :—
i. Ante—Pearls of perfect sphericity and lustre.
2.    Anathorie—failing in one of the above two
points,
3.    Masengoe—failing slightly in both points.
4.    Kalippo—failing still more.
5.    Korowel—or double Pearls.
6.    Peesal—or mis-shapen· Pearls.
7.    Oodwoe—beauty.
8.    Kural—very small and mis-shapen.
9.    Thool—seed Pearls.
Mr. Markham has given an interesting account of the attempts to form a nursery for the culture and development of Pearl-oysters at Tuticorin.
