in silver production in 1911 were 2,006,816 ounces in Utah, 826,394
ounces in Idaho, 710,043 ounces in Arizona, 704,730 ounces in Nevada,
and 510,553 ounces in New Mexico. The most notable decreases were
1,179,430 ounces in Colorado and 569,640 ounces in California. Of 27
geographic divisions enumerated in the table, increased production of
silver in 1911 is noted for 15 and decreased output for the remaining
12.
The
following tables show the relative rank and locations of the 16 mines
or groups making the largest production of gold and of silver in the
United States in 1911. Figures for individual output can not be given,
although companies operating some of the mines publish annual reports
giving these and many other interesting data, and notes have been
published by the Survey and in the technical and scientific press
descriptive of most of the mines:
