IMPORTS AND EXPORTS. Platinum imported and entered for consumption in the United States 1903-1912.
a Includes in 1911,34,412 troy ounces of platinum ore or crude platinum and 88,339 troy ounces of unmanu­factured products, ingots, bars, sheets, and wire; in 1912, 45,280 troy ounces of platinum ore or crude plati­num, and 59,526 troy ounces of ingots, bars, plates, sheets, and wire, sponge or scrap.
6 The value of platinum ore or crude platinum in 1911, was $1,278,239 and of unmanufactured products, Ingots, bars, sheets, and wire, $3,445,250; in 1912, the value of platinum ore or crude platinum was $1,781,585, and of ingots, bars, plates, sheets, and wire, sponge or scrap, $2,552,978.
No exports of platinum are reported for the calendar year 1912.

The platinum industry was unusually active in Russia, owing to high prices. The effort which is being made to make the platinum industry a Government monopoly includes the project of a Govern­ment refinery. There is no prospect, however, for the completion of this plan for at least several years.
