Besides
the refined platinum obtained, as estimated from new material, 40,698
ounces of refined platinum were derived from scraps, sweepings, and
like material. It should be borne in mind, however, that any report on
production from scraps, particularly in metal so valuable as platinum,
must necessarily contain much duplication, as some of the material
probably enters the market several times in the course of a year,
particularly sweepings and scraps obtained from the jewelry and dental
trades.
