An
increase in production of gold from mines of the United States of
$6,901,557 is shown for 1915, following an increase of $2,715,869 for
the preceding year. An increase of 2,735,109 ounces of silver is also
shown, following a decrease of 1,566,468 ounces in 1914.
The
principal gold-producing States ranked as follows in 1915: California,
Colorado, Alaska, Nevada, and South Dakota, and these five States
together made nearly 81 per cent of the total output. The most notable
increases in gold were $2,531,839 in Colorado,$1,788,800 in California,
$937,885 in Alaska, and $886,284 in Montana.
The
principal silver-producing States in 1915 in order of output were
Nevada, Montana, Utah, Idaho, Colorado, and Arizona, and these six
States together produced more than 90 per cent of the total for the
United States. The largest increases for 1915 were 2,361,977 ounces in
Montana, 1,271,026 ounces in Arizona, and 1,158,289 ounces in Utah.
Large decreases of silver are noted of 1,768,093 ounces in Colorado,
995,651 ounces in Nevada, and 710,388 ounces in Idaho.
