PRODUCTION OF GOLD AND SILVER REPORTED FROM THE MINES.
The following table gives the quantity and value of recoverable gold and silver output (mine production) by States reported from the producing mines in 1915 to the United States Geological Survey. The increase or decrease of production shows results by comparison with the corresponding Survey mine figures for 1914.
Mine production of gold and silver in the United States in 1915.
An increase in production of gold from mines of the United States of $6,901,557 is shown for 1915, following an increase of $2,715,869 for the preceding year. An increase of 2,735,109 ounces of silver is also shown, following a decrease of 1,566,468 ounces in 1914.
The principal gold-producing States ranked as follows in 1915: California, Colorado, Alaska, Nevada, and South Dakota, and these five States together made nearly 81 per cent of the total output. The most notable increases in gold were $2,531,839 in Colorado,$1,788,800 in California, $937,885 in Alaska, and $886,284 in Montana.
The principal silver-producing States in 1915 in order of output were Nevada, Montana, Utah, Idaho, Colorado, and Arizona, and these six States together produced more than 90 per cent of the total for the United States. The largest increases for 1915 were 2,361,977 ounces in Montana, 1,271,026 ounces in Arizona, and 1,158,289 ounces in Utah. Large decreases of silver are noted of 1,768,093 ounces in Colorado, 995,651 ounces in Nevada, and 710,388 ounces in Idaho.
