This territory was occupied by the soviet government in July and has been under soviet rule since. If newspaper accounts are to be credited, a considerable quantity of platinum must be held by the soviet government, which has proposed to issue $67,000,000 in rubles, secured by platinum valued at $35,000,000, to be used for purchases in foreign countries.
According to a statement of the soviet representative in the United States,5 the production of platinum during the last few years is as shown below:
Platinum reported as produced in Russia, 1910-1918.
Unconfirmed reports state that platinum deposits are now being worked on the Alai Mountains, in Ferghana, Turkestan. These deposits are said to have been discovered by German prisoners of war.
It has also been reported that some platinum is found in the gold placers of the Marinsk district, Tomsk Government, in the Vozdvi-hensk, a tributary of Chumiya River, and in the Bolehich-Chelnloff, a tributary of Km River.
In the Bisk Government platinum has been reported from the gold placers of Tzarevo-Alexandravsk and Kochina rivers.
TASMANIA.
According to official reports6 the production of osmiridium from Tasmania is as follows:
Osmiridium produced in Tasmania, 1910-1918.
The production for 1919 7 is stated to be 1,325.89 troy ounces, the output for the last quarter being estimated.
