614 MINERAL RESOURCES, 1922—PART I.
Gold.—The
mine production of gold in Washington in 1922 was $186,965, against
$128,486 in 1921. Of this production 46 per cent was derived from ores
shipped directly to smelters, and 51 per cent came from gold and silver
milling plants; siliceous ores supplied 97.6 per cent and copper ores
and lead ores together less than 1 per cent. Ferry County alone
produced $85,686 in 1922, against $88,290 in 1921. Nearly all the gold
produced in Ferry County came, as usual, from mines in the Republic
district. Whatcom County produced $95,679 in gold.
-
Silver.—The
mine production of silver in Washington increased from 142,450 ounces
in 1921 to 205,046 ounces in 1922, of which Ferry County produced
32,725 ounces, mainly from siliceous ores; Stevens County 103,108
ounces, mainly from copper ores; and Okanogan County 68,312 ounces,
mainly from siliceous ores. #
WYOMING.
The total production of gold in Wyoming from 1867 to the end of 1922 is given by Charles W. Henderson7 as $1,237,328, and the output of silver for the same period as 69,859 ounces.
Small
shipments of copper ore containing gold, silver, platinum, and
palladium were made from the Old Rambler mine. Small placer mines
produced some bullion in 1922. The total output of gold in 1922 was
valued at $1,207.
PHILIPPINE ISLANDS.
Gold.—The output of gold in the Philippine Islands from 1907 to 1922, inclusive, has been $14,475,301.
The
mine production of gold in 1922 was $1,526,400, against $1,313,096 in
1921, $1,276,561 in 1920, $1,309,722 in 1919, $1,290,000 in 1918,
$1,408,161 in 1917, $1,514,200 in 1916, $1,320,900 in 1915, $1,371,514
in 1914, $868,362 in 1913, and $570,212 in 1912.
The
milling plant of the Benguet Consolidated Mining Co., in the Province
of Luzon, the largest producer of gold in the Philippine Islands, is
described in the Mining and Scientific Press of December 4 and 11,
1920. Another large producer was the Colorado mine, at Aroroy.
Silver.—The
mine production of silver in the Philippine Islands in 1922 was 27,994
ounces and was recovered entirely from gold bullion refined, as no
attempt was made to develop the "known deposits of silver ore.
The
annual report of the Benguet Consolidated Mining Co. for 1922 stated
that 42,244 tons of ore was cyanided. The extraction was 91.8 per cent
of the average value of the ore, and the bullion recovered was valued
at $865,521. During the year 9,294 feet of workings were cut and the
mine ore bodies between B and C levels were developed. The ore
reserves were estimated to be 316,000 tons at the end of 1922. The
capacity of the mill was being increased to 200 tons a day, and the
greater capacity and the improvement in the treatment of ore will lower
the limit of ore that can be mined to about $6 a ton.
