LEAD OEES.
The mine production of silver from argentiferous lead ores increased considerably in 1922. The output from Idaho decreased 238,539 ounces, that of Utah increased 2,290,244 ounces, that of Colorado decreased 30,326 ounces, and that of Montana decreased 704,371 ounces. The yield of Idaho is derived mainly from the silver-lead ores of the Coeur d'Alene district, that in Utah chiefly from the Park City and Tintic districts, and that in Colorado from Aspen and Lead-ville. The production of silver from lead ores increased also in Arizona, California, Missouri, Nevada, and Washington. Most of the output is obtained from the desilverization of lead bullion from smelting of western ores and concentrates.
ZINC, LEAD-ZINC, AND MIXED OEES.
Silver from argentiferous zinc ores increased more than 1,670,000 fine ounces in 1922. The output was mainly a refinery by-product from the smelting of zinc concentrates from California and MonĀtana. Silver from lead-zinc ores increased 1,052,685 ounces; it came chiefly from Montana and Utah. The output of silver from copper-lead and copper-lead-zinc ores came mainly from Idaho, Montana, Colorado, and Utah.
PRODUCTION OF SILVER, BY SOURCES, 1905-1922.
The production of silver as reported by the mines had increased pretty steadily from 1908 to 1916. A decline during the next three years was followed by partial recovery in 1920, a further decline in 1921, and a considerable increase in 1922, when the output was 17,649,544 ounces less than it was in 1916. The recovery from dry and siliceous ores in 1922 exceeded by 620,704 ounces that in 1913, when the yield from the Tonopah mines was at its zenith, and
