Larry Winn is a self taught artist who started his lapidary endeavors some 19 years ago. His style of gem art is recognized for its intricate play of light and texture in the pieces. His use of facets in combination with carving produces pieces that are exceedingly bright and eye catching. Many of his designs are framed within more traditional shapes and are easily mounted into jewelry. Mr. Winn produces most of his work in transparent gem materials with occasional works done in translucent gem materials.
Larry Winn received his graduate gemologist certification from the Gemological Institute of America in 1990. In order to achieve this certification he completed extensive studies in gem identification and diamond grading.

Mr. Winn has been featured in Lapidary Journal as well as being profiled in National Jeweler, American Jewelry Manufacturer, Jewellery International and other trade publications.
He has won 11 American Gem Trade Associations Cutting Edge gemstone competitions for excellence, originality and innovation in his gemstone work. He won the first Best of Show awarded in the AGTA Cutting Edge competition in 1997. His latest wins came in 1998 for a first place citrine quartz cushion triangle entitled "Solar Flair" and for a third place peridot cut into a fancy isosceles triangle. Mr. Winn did not compete in 1999 as he was one of the three judge panel for the AGTA Cutting Edge competition that year.
