Emerald in Quartz

Fine emerald crystal specimens in matrix are extremely uncommon and are highly prized by collectors. Emeralds have always captivated man and emerald gemstones are consistently among the world's most popular. Until recently, all of the top quality, emerald crystal specimens in the world came from mines in Colombia. Since that time, world-class Zambian Emerald specimens have taken “center stage”, because of their superb quality and amazing crystal size.

This breathtaking, vibrant-green emerald specimen was recovered in 2008 at the Kagem emerald mine in north-central Zambia. When found, these emerald crystals are completely encapsulated in massive quartz boulders. Specimen preparators skillfully remove the quartz to expose the beauty of the emeralds.

This piece features four medium-green emerald crystals in quartz. The longest emerald crystal measures 4.5 cm in length. The overall aesthetics of this specimen are outstanding.
